Summary

People can respond differently to the same diet because nutrition operates within a broader system shaped by genetic variation, metabolism, environment and social context. Nutrigenomics and precision nutrition seek to understand these differences and translate them into more relevant health strategies.

This emerging research direction will integrate genomic, nutritional, clinical and population-level data. A central aim is to study variation across diverse populations while avoiding models that treat genetic effects independently from access to care, socioeconomic conditions and other determinants of health.
